The MQ-4 Sensor Module is a semiconductor gas sensor designed for detecting methane (CH₄) and natural gas. It offers both analog and digital outputs, making it ideal for gas leakage detection, industrial safety systems, and smart home automation projects.
The MQ-4 Sensor Module uses a tin dioxide (SnO₂) sensing element whose electrical resistance changes in the presence of methane and natural gas. The onboard comparator and adjustable potentiometer allow users to configure the digital output threshold, while the analog output provides continuous gas concentration readings.
The module is widely used in methane leak detectors, natural gas monitoring systems, industrial safety equipment, environmental monitoring, and IoT-based gas sensing applications. It can be easily interfaced with Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi (with an ADC), and other microcontroller platforms. The sensor requires a short preheating period before providing stable and reliable measurements.
