The MQ-3 Sensor Module is a highly sensitive alcohol detection sensor designed to detect ethanol vapour in the air. It provides both analog and digital outputs, making it suitable for breath alcohol detectors, safety systems, and embedded electronics projects.
The MQ-3 Sensor Module uses a semiconductor gas sensing element with high sensitivity to alcohol (ethanol) vapour while offering lower sensitivity to gases such as LPG, methane, and smoke. An onboard comparator IC and adjustable potentiometer allow users to set a custom detection threshold for the digital output, while the analog output provides proportional sensor readings.
The module is widely used in alcohol breath analysers, vehicle safety systems, industrial monitoring, laboratory equipment, and IoT-based gas sensing applications. It interfaces easily with Arduino, ESP8266, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi (with an ADC), and other microcontroller platforms. For stable readings, the sensor should be preheated before use.
